Mrs. Fred Holzschuh

Mrs. Fred Holzschuh passed away at her home northwest of Owensville Tuesday morning, Nov. 11 (1924) after a lingering illness, aged 73 years and 16 days. Mrs. Holzschuh had been an invalid the past year but about three weeks ago took a turn for the worse and never rallied. She was a loving and dutiful wife and mother and an excellent friend and neighbor, always ready to do a kindness or render assistance in sickness or trouble. She was a lifelong Christian mother and at all times tried to teach and train her children in the way of righteousness. She had a great many friends who besides the stricken husband and children will keenly feel her loss.

Rhoda Susan Hollensworth was born near Owensville October 25, 1851. Here she grew to womanhood and in 1875 was married to Mr. Frederick Holzschuh. To them were born nine children. Two sons and one daughter have preceded the mother to the Great Beyond. Those who with thier father survive are: William of La Junta, Colorado; Mrs. Emma L. Sugden of Brush, Colorado; John, of Chicago; Mrs. Sophia Becks, of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Irene Schuler, of St. Louis; and Casper, of Owensville. All except Mrs. Sugden were with their mother when she died.  Mrs. Sugden is herself ill and was unable to come home. Mrs. Holzschuh also leaves eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren., besides three sisters. Mrs. Ellen Shields, of Canaan; Mrs. Sarah Phillips, of Salem; Mrs. Angeline Pertle of Chicago; and two brothers, Thomas and Jerry Hollensworth, of Miller County.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Holzschuh lived for a number of years on Red Oak and 33 years ago moved to the farm near Owensville where Mrs. Holzschuh died.
