Jean Eleanor Hollingsworth Mansley

Jean was born to Samuel and Virginia Hollingsworth in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They preceded her in death along with her brother, the Reverend S. Wm. Hollingsworth of Issaquah, Washington. Jean had a loving marriage of 66 years with Clifford D. Mansley, Sr. residing in Lake Oswego, Oregon from 1980-2019.

Jean was awarded a merit scholarship to the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia from which she graduated in 1950. She then served as Assistant to the Art Director of Merk, Sharpe, & Dome in North Wales, Pennsylvania. Additionally, Jean worked for many years as a free-lance artist specializing in package design.

More important than her career, Jean was passionate about her marriage to Cliff Sr. and her role as the mother of Holly Monroe, Meredith Tento and Cliff Mansley, Jr. She viewed making her house a home as both a joy and a privilege. Later in life, Jean and Cliff Sr. combined their talents to form a calligraphy studio known as Heirloom Artists. Their business continues to flourish through the talents of their daughter Holly Monroe. She also loved to garden and bird watch.

Jean was a devout Christian owing the depth of her convictions to Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship during her college years and to Bible Study Fellowship later in life. She was an enthusiastic member of the Lake Grove Presbyterian Church. In her younger years her friends affectionately described her as “God-bitten.”
